‘Unmasked’ Winners

Each year the gardens of St Paul’s Anglican Church become a colourful outdoor gallery, with a line-up of the masks parading the street front of Limestone Street.
During the Ipswich Festival, our city hosts an annual mask competition, ‘Unmasked’, which is judged by presenting partner Queensland Urban Utilities.
Students from 14 different schools were invited to paint the 1.5m masks within the theme of ‘Waterways and the Fate of the Sea.’
St Mary’s College students look forward to the mask challenge each year as it enables school students to use their creative talents in a forum that is different and visible.
“We were delighted to hear that St Mary’s College was the winning school,” stated Deputy Principal Marcus Richardson.
“This is a testament to the Art Department and our dedicated students Lily Appelman and Laura Luscombe who poured many hours into the artwork,” Mr Richardson added.
It is very rewarding for a student to reap the benefit of their hard work and we know that this year’s theme was particularly important to St Mary’s College student Lilly Appelman.
