St Mary’s College is an integral part of the Catholic community of St Mary’s Parish, and the wider Ipswich community. Our extensive history has its beginnings in 1863 with dedicated parishioners determined to provide a Catholic education to the children of the parish. And as they say, the rest is history. The clergy and parishioners of the time were instrumental in bringing the Sisters of Mercy to Ipswich to start our school.
Today, we are extremely proud of our history and embrace our Catholic and Mercy traditions. There are two ways in which we live out our Faith:
- Every student across all year levels engages in the study of Religion, and
- The whole school embraces a program that supports the Religious Life of the College, where students are offered opportunities beyond the classroom to pray and reflect; to show compassion; and to be of service to those less fortunate than themselves.
All our endeavours in the area of Religious Education at St Mary’s College combine to help the girls explore what life means rather than simply to pursue what life provides; to discover and celebrate their identity as children of a loving God.
