Self-expression and creativity are core to the cocurricular Dance Program at St Mary’s College. There are numerous opportunities for students to develop and refine their technical, performance and expressive skills outside of the classroom through the Dance Troupe program. Students involved in the SMC Dance Troupes perform at College and community events as well as compete at renowned Eisteddfods and competitions in South-East Queensland. Involvement in the SMC Dance Troupes offers students a sense of belonging and achievement through building important skills of collaboration and teamwork.
This exciting and successful program relies not only on the experienced, qualified and dedicated team of Dance staff working at the College, it also employs industry professionals from companies across Queensland such as RAW Dance for workshops and choreography sessions.
The SMC Dance Troupe develops student’s performance skills in a range of genres; Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Tap and Jazz are just a small selection of the dance styles students are exposed to. Participation in the SMC Dance Troupe requires commitment and passion as students must be prepared to dedicate their time, energy and enthusiasm to weekly rehearsals outside of school hours.
