St Mary’s College offers a wide range of co-curricular sporting opportunities to complement our academic offerings. While involvement in co-curricular sport is not compulsory, students are encouraged to become involved in the many sporting activities on offer. We believe that being involved in co-curricular activities not only enhances and develops physical skills and wellbeing, but builds self-confidence and pride in the College while developing important skills such as teamwork, leadership, organisational skills and commitment.
Participation and team spirit are evident in our many Inter-House competitions such as athletics, cross-country and swimming carnivals, which are fiercely contested. Students also compete in a range of Inter-School sporting competitions. The College is a part of the Catholic Secondary Schoolgirls’ Sports Association (CaSSSA) and competes in the CaSSSA competitions for Cross Country, Swimming and Athletics. In addition, girls can participate in a competition against schools in the local Ipswich Region. Girls, who excel, can elect to trial for Zone, Regional, State and National teams, depending on the Sport. The College also nominates in a number of state-wide competitions.
Sports on offer include:
