Mercy in Action
At St Mary's College, we encourage all students to live out the mission of the Church through participation in service and outreach activities. Volunteering their time to help others or give back to the community, our students become aware of injustices in the world, and learn to be compassionate global citizens, responding to the needs of others without judgement. Strengthening our connection to our faith, service and outreach initiatives are integral to our Catholic identity, and Mercy tradition.
The College is involved in many fundraising events throughout the year, as well as offering assistance to local services including Rosies' – Friends on the Street, Dandalion Friends and the Little Kings Movement. Partnering with international organisations Caritas Australia and St Vincent de Paul, we contribute to causes outside Australia.
St Mary's partners with fellow Mercy service, the Romero Centre, who support people seeking asylum in Brisbane. Romero's individualised case management service helps families access food, accommodation, clothing, medical aid, trauma counselling, skills training, expert legal advice, visa guidance, English classes and more. We are proud to support them through our annual food and
Christmas appeals. Find out more about the Romero Centre here
Service and outreach activities are overseen by the Campus Minister.
